This is a true high-volume duck destination for serious water fowlers. Other species are available within a 1½ hour drive, but the emphasis is mainly on ducks. La Escondida, a 100-year-old traditional estancia, is located at a convenient 3½ hour drive west from Buenos Aires. It offers 6 private suites (plus two more bedrooms) in a traditional Argentina farm setting.
A typical day at La Escondida calls for a reasonable 6:45 a.m. departure for the duck blinds, which are only 15-20 minutes away.
After the morning shoot, guests return at 10:30 for a relaxing hour of cocktails and lying about all the great shots they made and the huge number of ducks they bagged. Then they will enjoy a leisurely lunch and a siesta. At 3:30 it is back into the duck blinds, or alternatively, an earlier departure for non-stop hot-barreled shooting at doves returning to the roost.
Day 1: Depart U.S or Europe
Day 2: Arrive to Buenos Aires, Argentina’s capital city, where you will be met by River Plate’s ground transfer team and driven to the estancia (4 hour drive). After lunch and siesta, 15 minute drive to the high volume duck area. Back to the estancia for drinks and dinner with briefing by your host on the hunting days to come.
Days 3-5: Three full shooting days. Wake up call around 6:00 a.m., breakfast and transfer to different duck areas; all at a 15 minute drive radius. Back to the estancia for cocktails and lunch. After a siesta, return to the duck blinds.
Day 6: Morning duck hunt. Transfer to Buenos Aires International airport after lunch.
Day 7: Arrive U.S. or Europe.
